How Often Should You Pump a Septic Tank in Texas?
Pumping intervals by household size, tank capacity, and South Texas soil type.
The 3–5 year rule
Most San Antonio-area households with a 1,000–1,500 gallon tank should pump every 3–5 years. Bigger households or smaller tanks tip toward the 3-year side; small households with larger tanks can stretch closer to 5.
What changes the interval
Garbage disposal use, laundry volume, water softener discharge into the tank, and household size all shorten the interval. Aerobic systems still need pump-outs — usually every 3–5 years for the trash tank.
